The trend of cruise ships dropping anchorage on Jeju’s shores has recently become increasing popular. According to the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, a 52,000 ton Italian passenger ship, the Costa Classica, came to Jeju with 580 crew members and 1,680 passengers on April 23. The passengers disembarked and stayed on the Island long enough to visit some of Jeju’s the main attractions. The Costa Classica, equipped with swimming pool, fitness center and a duty free shop, disembarks from Shanghai, China for Jeju then heads for Fukuika and Nagasaki, Japan. The ship is expected to make the trip up to 21 times by October 17.
In addition, on May 7th the Legend of the Seas, a cruise ship from the Bahamas, entered Hwasun port, Seogwipo city with 1,800 passengers affording them the opportunity to visit Yackcheon temple, Jusangjeolli and Cheonjiyeon waterfalls. The Legend of the Seas originates from Yokohama, Japan and visits several cities in Korea and China .
In total, nine cruise ships are expected to grace Jeju’s shores this year 55 times.
