This year's Rape Flower Festival was held on April 10 and 11 near Daerok Mountain in Pyoseon, Seogwipo. Over a site of just under 300,000 square meters, the fragrant yellow flowers bloomed along a 15-kilometer stretch of Noksan Road, which has been ranked one of “Korea’s 100 most beautiful roads” for the past two years.

The site, which is one of Jeju’s most popular sites for viewing and photographing the rape flowers, is now part of Olle Course 7, which links the mountain with a ranch in the village of Gasi and Tarabi Oreum.

Festival organizer, Kim Moon Kyu, said the rapeseeds would be harvested after the flower petals drop for use as bio diesel. The plants and flowers can also be eaten raw in salads and the plant is sometimes used to make kimchi before the blooms appear.

Other recommended viewing sites for rape flowers include the islet of Udo; Seopjikoji, with its stunning coastal views and backdrop of Sunrise Peak (Seongsan Ilchulbong); and near the International Convention Center in Jungmun.
