It has been recently confirmed that seven applicants failed to get a job at Korea Gas Safety Corporation because they are women.

Cheongju District Prosecutors' Office in North Chungcheong Province announced that Park Ki-dong, former president of the Korea Gas Safety Corporation, was arrested on suspicion of recruiting and receiving money on Sept. 27th.

During the investigation, it was found that Mr. Park often said, “We should not hire women because they won’t be able continue to work because of childbirth and maternity leave.”

Public organizations should not be able to hire more than 70% of either male or female employees due to the Gender Equality Employment Objective System policy.

But currently, female workers at Korea Gas Safety Corporation is around 15%, which is still under discrimination.

It is found that the Korea Gas Safety Corporation eliminated seven female applicants by switching the ranking due to Mr. Park’s order. For example, one female applicant who were originally ranked second was switched to 8th and was not hired in the end.

When this news was announced, the netizens responded, "This shouldn’t be the first time." and “If this thing happens in public companies often, how about the private companies?”

As Mr. Park mentioned that we shouldn’t hire women due to childbirth and maternity leave, the netizens responded, “If you don’t want to hire women because of childbirth and maternity leave, people shouldn’t call us selfish women who don’t want to be pregnant or give birth, right?” and “Until the police arrest this kind of person in Korea, don’t tell us to get married and give birth.”
