A Vietnamese man, who tried to enter into Korea illegally after jumping into the sea from a 7-meter-high cargo ship and swam 1km, was caught by police.
What is the story behind his desperate efforts?
On a dark day, a man came out from the sea at Dangjin Port in South Chungcheong Province, South Korea. He climbed a barbed-wire fence and got a taxi on the road.
The man got out of the taxi and ran toward his destination. This man, 31 years old of Vietnamese descent, was going to meet his wife in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi-do.
The man, who had been staying in Korea since 2011, got deported in September 2016 because he stayed pass the period of his work contract. On the other hand, his wife, who came to Korea in 2015, has been staying in Korea until now.
He got a job as a sailor to enter Korea and when the cargo ship where he worked anchored at Dangjin Port, he jumped into the sea and swam 1km to reach land.
Later, it turned out that he even got a sailor certificate in Vietnam and studied the tide of the west coast of Korea for a year. However, he got caught less than 24 hours after he landed.
The immigration office took him from the marine police and requested an arrest warrant.
