Good news for soju fans as two new types of the rice-based spirit have been released on Jeju called 'Pureunbam.' (Translates as 'Blue night'.)

While 'Hallasan' soju has long been a favorite among Jeju residents, 'Pureunbam' soju aims to compete by introducing a slightly weaker 16.9% 'Short night' soju, along with a more standard strength 20.1% 'Long night' soju.

The soju is made on Jeju and is available in the standard 360ml glass bottles. It was first released on Sept. 15 in Emarts around the country.

Interestingly, the new soju is owned by the fairly massive 'Shinsegye group.' This company owns department stores throughout Korea as well as the Emart supermarket chain.

In order to help with their first foray into the soju market, they enlisted the help of ex-Sistar member Soyou to perform a version of the song 'Blue nights of Jeju.'

Of course, 'Blue Night' soju is not the first alcoholic drink company to move to Jeju.

Magpie Brewing Co. opened up their brewery on the island in 2016, while the Jeju Beer Company released their first ever beer around a month ago.
