Jeju 9th Haevichi Arts Festival 2016Four-day arts and culture extravaganza kicks off June 13

Artists and performers are to gather for 9th Jeju Haevichi Arts Festival to be held June 13-16.

About 150 organizations involved in arts and cultural events will take part in the four-day event to be held across the island.

This year's festival has the slogan "Welcome to Jeju - and enjoy K-culture" and includes an art market, exhibitions and special performances held on five locations on the island.

Round table events will provide details of support programs available to arts groups as well as host debates on promoting arts activities.

Organizers say the festival, which aims to help with the development of performance arts and artistic exchange, has become the largest of its kind in Korea.

The festival's opening ceremony starts from 6pm at Haevichi Hotel & Resort Jeju on June 13.

Included in the opening ceremony will be performances by Artstage SAN, Rapercussion and Kingston Rudieska as well as a pyrotechnics display.

The art market booth exhibition takes place 3pm-6pm and at 10am-6pm at the same venue on June 13.

An academic fair and symposium giving art center officials and performer groups a chance to meet with renowned artists from Korea and overseas will be held on June 15 from 1pm-4pm at Haevichi Hotel & Resort Jeju Grand Ballroom.

Special Performances include Undertaker Yoo - a play depicting a traditional funeral, at Jeju Culture & Arts Center Main Hall on June 11 at 7pm.

WoongSan Fun Fun Fun Jazz concert is at Seogwipo Arts Center Main Hall at 6pm on June 12.

Teacher goes to the Sea God's Palace, a traditional performance by Ahn Sook-sun takes place on June 14 at 7.30pm at Jeju Art Center.

Imported Song musical performers will be at Jeju National Museum on June 15 at 7pm.

Kim Sung Nyeo's A Fairy on the Wall, a performance by Group Michoo will show at the Seolmundae Women's Center, Seondeok-ro, Jeju City at 7pm on June 16.

Meanwhile, 24 arts performances open to the public at main attractions in Jeju will take place as part of the Jeju-in fringe festival.
