Jeju Special Self-Governing Province will hold “Spring Tourism Week” May 1 to 14 in a bid to attract even more visitors to Jeju. Jeju tourism is already performing well with 2.3 million visitors by March, an 11.2 percent in increase on last year.

Around 9 out of 10 schools will have breaks during this time making it one of the busiest times for the tourism industry on Jeju.

The promotion, launched last year, is being held by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism alongside the Korea Tourism Organization as well as other government ministries, local authorities, public institutions and companies.

A total of 1,000 companies and organizations will take part including guesthouses, restaurants, tourist attractions and tour providers.

The week will be used to promote the island to visitors from the mainland and discounts will be offered by the Jeju Tourism Organization Duty Free Shop and other partners.

There will also be some special events such as moonlight walks at Jungmun golf club and other areas, Gapado Green Barley festival and Bangseonmun Festival. There will also be additional tour guides placed at 29 tourist destinations such as Jeju Stone Park, the Haenyeo Museum, Jeju Mokgwana and Seongeup Folk Village.

Jeju Tourist Information Centers and Jeju Welcome Center will act as hubs over the two weeks with increased services for visitors.

Jeju already performs well nationally in terms of tourist satisfaction coming top on 10 of 15 indices in the Korean National Tourism Survey conducted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism between 2011 and 2013.

The province is aiming to build on this and make Jeju a leading long-stay destination in the years ahead.
