A new passenger boat, linking Jejudo Island and the nation’s southernmost islands including Marado and Gapado, started sailing on April 17.
According to Jeju Province, a Jeju-based shipping company that operates three shuttle ferries from Moseulpo port, held a launching ceremony for the new ferry in February. Having completed trial operations on Monday, it started sailing on Thursday and replaced Samyeongho, the company’s 36-ton ferry.
Samyeongho has been in operation for over 25 years and lacks such facilities as air-conditioning and heating. With the newly-launched ferry, inconveniences due to old or inadequate facilities will be greatly reduced.
A provincial official said that the new ferry will also help with those visiting Gapado Island during the 6th Green Barley Festival. |
