Women on Jeju Island are more active in business, education and child rearing than men, a survey of 500 Jeju residents by the Jeju Development Institute shows, and more women than men are thinking of divorce. Asked why they are staying married, 31 percent cited effects on the children. 19.8 percent responded they do not want to disappoint their families, with 19.5 percent saying getting divorced is not a solution. Some 10.3 percent decided to remain married out of concern about prejudice against divorcees. Asked how satisfied they are with their marriage, 70.4 percent of male respondents said they are quite satisfied as against 41.4 percent of women.
