Governor Woo Geun-min and the Korea Tourism Organization met their objectives in Shanghai, China, on Feb. 12 by developing plans for the Incentive Team of Amway to visit Jeju in May. Governor Woo met Vice-President Huang Shengwen of Amway, and encouraged the corporation to boost the Jeju economy by shopping in local commercial districts and patronizing local businesses. During the trip, Governor Woo also met General Manager Huang Ruiling of Costa Cruises, one of the top three cruise companies in the world. Woo requested that the number of cruises to Jeju be increased, emphasizing the importance of stimulating the regional economy. Since Jeju Special Self-Governing Province and Costa signed an MOU in 2012, General Manager Hwang has used Jeju agricultural, marine and livestock products when serving Korean food. Costa Cruises will operate three lines to Jeju from 2016, amounting to 180~200 dockings per year and 450,000 tourists. As the cruise market rapidly grows, Jeju has set its sights on becoming a global cruise port of call which it is hoped will develop primary industries and create jobs for Jeju’s youth.
