Name: The Lighthouse

Where: Hagwi 12 gil 22, Aewol-eup. (Travelling west from Jeju City on the coastal road to Hallim, get off the 700 bus at Hagwi Hanaro Mart; cross the main road and take the left side street towards the water; The Lighthouse will be on your right in a minute or two).

When: Open Tuesday to Sunday; Tuesday through Thursday from 10.30am to 4.30pm, Friday and Saturday 10.30am to 9pm; Sunday from 12pm to 6pm.

Menu: Western style, specializing in brunch; BLT ciabatta recommended

Taste: The food is prepared in front of you, so you have faith in the preparation. A healthy serving including a sprinkling of raisins. Possible refills on Americanos (if you’re nice). If you’re not quite full there’s an ice cream sandwich to truly fill the gap. Speciality yoghurts also on offer. Everything tastes good!

Price: Medium: 3 bucks will cover you for an Americano, a little more for cappuccino, machiatto etc. The ciabatta/ salad menu comes in at 12,000 won a piece, which can be shared between two.

Interior: This is a really child-friendly place, with cushions on the floor in the back areas. There are also tables with seats of course. Loads of English learning books on the shelves, giving a strong hint of educational opportunities here.

Atmosphere: This café is run by a loving couple who can both speak English (and Korean!). They let kids play around, whilst chatting with the grownups. There is a more private area for couples who don’t want to be bothered by any young’uns. Much better than a cavernous franchise coffee shop.

Staff: If you come in on your own, you’ll be able to have a nice chat with Shinnie and Harley. There are no indifferent part-time staff here. It all comes from the heart.
