TV, computer, laundry, cellphone: today electricity is essential. We use a lot of electricity, so we are running out. People use a lot of fossil fuel, so glaciers are melting. Another problem is that renewable energy is affected by such things as sunlight and wind. Because of these issues, the Smart Grid is important to us.

The Smart Grid is next generation’s technique in saving energy. There are several advantages to using the Smart Grid. First, we can create jobs. Second, we can reduce green house gases. Third, energy consumption can be reduced. Fourth, we can expand renewable energy.

The Smart Grid was set up in Jeju’s Gujwa-eup. There are five components to the Smart Grid: smart transportation, smart renewable, smart power grid, and smart electricity service. It was set up in 2009 and cost 370 billion won. People can learn more about the Smart Grid by visiting the information center and playing games, watching videos, and listening to the guide.

For those who live outside the Smart Grid there are still ways to use electricity more efficiently. First, use appliances like the washing machine during non peak time. Second, set air conditioners at 26 degrees in the summer. Third, keep windows and door closed when the air conditioner is running.

Let’s learn more about the Smart Grid and save electricity.
