Jeju Special Self-Governing Province have selected seven Jeju buildings to promote the island’s architectural heritage. According to the selection plan, seven “beautiful” buildings were selected, including two traditional buildings (residential and non-residential), and five modern buildings (one residential and four non-residential).
Recommendations were received from three construction organizations and four universities and the selection was announced on Nov. 21, 2013. Officials are planning to promote the buildings alongside the New 7 Wonders of Nature title as Jeju tourism attractions.
The seven selected are:
Jeju Podo Hotel (863, Sallongnam-ro, Andeok-myeon, Seogwipo-si, Jeju City)
The roofs resemble small oreum or a bunch of grapes
Seogwipo World Cup Stadium (31, World Cup-ro, Seogwipo-si, Jeju City)
The stadium features an iconic curved roof
Daum Communications (242, Cheomdan-ro (Yeongpyeong-dong), Jeju-si, Jeju)
The building’s experimental details make it resemble Jeju’s volcanic rock.
Jeju Museum of Contemporary Art (35, Jeoji 14-gil, Hangyeong-myeon, Jeju-si, Jeju City)
Features of basalt and expresses epicene beauty with beautiful grounds.
Haeshimheon (45-13, Sinseoldong-gil, Jeju-si, Jeju)
Its mood emotes Jeju’s basalt rock
Jeju Mokgwana (43-2, Samdoi-dong, Jeju-si, Jeju)
This is a traditional government office and an important historical site.
Jeju Seongeup Folk Village (7-1, Seongeupjeonguihyeon-ro 22beon-gil, Pyoseon-myeon, Seogwipo City)
Previously a seat of government(1423 ~ 1914), it retains features of mountain and oreum regions.
