"Enjoy yourself to the full!"
On December 7th, 2013, there was an amazing 'Global Forum for Greeting' at JDC (Jeju Free International City Development Center) and it was called the “2013 Jeju JDC Global Festival.” This is the second time it has been held following last year. Approximately 300 Jeju-people and foreigners took part in the festival.

"Hello!", "Bonjour", "Guten Tag", "Buon giorno".

Numerous nationalities with different appearances, languages or cultures introduced their traditions. Also, they blended together to communicate with each other at this time.

In the festival, a considerable number of programs fascinated participants. For example, the 'Performances of diverse nations', 'Animation screening for children', and 'A photo zone of trick art', and 'The South Carnival Show,” from a Jeju-band, and more.

Furthermore, we could taste several nations' foods, such as Japan, Nepal, Italy, the USA, Mongolia, Vietnam, and Germany. Especially, the booth which was the winner of the 'Master Chief of Korea' TV program gave a demonstration of his food and caught people's attention.

People couldn’t turn their noses up at the free-sample booth. “This is the German sausage, you need to cut these up into bite-size and brown it. Finally, start to eat it with prepared baguette and mustard sauce. This is the juice with the sausage. By the way, it has hotness and also alcohol,” he said laughing.

By trying traditional foods such as American apple pie, German-style sausages, and Vietnamese rice wraps we could feel each nations' distinct flavor and devotion.

In addition to the free sample booth, there were many kinds of experience corners where children could participate, too. For instance, 'Nail Art', 'making art work using hanja (traditional Korean paper), and more. Through those programs, young children had a great time bridging the differences between the nations.

If the ideal of the festival was for harmony, the cardinal second purpose is this. While the festival went off, at the same time, fundraising was conducted to help neighbors around us who are suffering from poverty.

The fund that participants of the festival and the JDC donated will be used for not only neighbors but also the Philippines' disaster relief aid because of Haiyan, the worst typhoon ever, the host of the festival said.

There are a good many global festivals around the world due to globalization. During the festival, we must not focus on just enjoying the time. We must build up connectedness and make an effort to understand the variety of cultures naturally as a global citizen.
