In the Beautiful Island Jeju there live the Haenyeo, who have a history stretching back more than 900 years. They are lady divers that dive under the water and they usually catch seaweed, ablaone, and turbin shells. And finally It is included in the new intangible cultural heritage list. But today Haenyeo is disappearing. Most of the Haenyeo are in their70s so in a generation the Haenyeo will disappear.

The chairman of Group which preserve Haenyeo culture, who named Lee Han Yong explained what they did to preserve the Haenyeo culture. He said ”I am the first graduate of the Haenyeo school. I participated in the Haenyeo school because I’m interested in diving.”

And he went on to explain why he made a group to preserve the Haenyeo culture. “We founded this group in 2008 to let people know about Haenyeo, and we are focused on visitor’s view to make them feel what Haenyeo’s do so we perform water diving performance. Nowdays many people are interested in the Haenyeo, but the goverment only provides support for the Haenyeo's diving suit and medical support policies. This must improve.” In addition to he spoke about Japan's Haenyeo called ama. "Only Jeju and Japan has the custom of Haenyeo. Japan try to make their Haenyeo become a World heritage by UNESCO so we must get more interest in Haenyeo and protect our important cultural inheritance."

The American who graduated from the Haenyeo school named Wanda, said she grew up in a small fishing town in the American south, and that she is interested in Haenyeo. She therefore, participated in the Haenyeo school. She took classes at the Haenyeo school every saturday for 16 weeks. She said she can hold her breath for nearly 55 second. And hardest thing is go under the bottom of the sea. And she said participate in Haenyeo's school is really valuable thing.

The visitor named Hong Seung Lo who came from Seoul said "Haenyeo usually catch marine products but, Now day there is many equipment so I'm really sad that there is no longer place to they work.
