Jeju Traditional 5 Days Market is a kind of Korean traditional marketplace. While some others open everyday, it only opens on certain days like 2,7,12,17,22,27 dates in a month. Also, the market is 67,531 square meters and consists of 1004 stores. It is located near the Jeju International Airport, less than 10 minutes away by taxi. The traditional market has run for over 50 years; opening in 1968. In the market, principal products of Jeju like tangerines and silver-hairtail fish are sold. Since it’s located near the ocean, especially fresh, seasonal fruit and the smell of fish convince many to open their wallets.

On November 2nd, a typical day in autumn, lots of merchants seemed to be very busy selling their own stuffs as usual. They were selling some useful things for daily-life, like clothes, traditional snacks, shoes, vegetables, fruits and fish. The things that were sold in the market are mostly cheap and many customers can come to the market to get things cheaper than the prices at any other hypermarkets.

The market is however not well known for visitors who don't know much about Jeju. À̼º¼ö(29) who has been selling shoes for 2 years complained, "Actually, there is nothing much that an individual merchant like me can do for advertising Jeju Traditional 5 Day Market. Recently, many convenient facilities like concert hall, babysitting center, security office and playground were built in near the marketplace, but they don't help much to attract many visitors as expected. We need better public activities. The provincial assemblies and the metropolitan govern have to try more and more to attract as many customers as they can do for advertising the traditional marketplace."

Although the market has many things to be improved for a better market, it is of a great benefit to local economy. Besides that, there are still more of benefits that we can get from the market. A woman with her baby said, "I usually come here with my baby. There are lots of things I can buy at cheaper prices and also many interesting views to show to my baby."

Jeju traditional 5day market will continue its own tradition the way that Jeju citizens want it to; as it has run for a half decade. Since it is located near the ocean, you can see its own beauty and uniqueness that you can't find at any other traditional markets.
