The annual Tamna Cultural Festival, the oldest and most popular festival in Jeju, displayed its rich traditional culture for 52th time in the relatively new location of Topdong. In 1962, the Tamna Cultual festival was opened under a different name: The Jeju art festival. Then in 1965, its name was changed again to the, Halla Cultural Festival. Finially, the name has become The Tamna Cultural Festival. Tamra Cultural festival is in undiluted local festival top 10. Tamna Cultural Festival is Jeju's traditional folk culture to identify and for succession events.
Ko kyung su, a scholarship proffesor in the Jeju Education Center said, "Nowadays, young students are suffering from too much studying. So, They don't know how to unwind and enjoy themselves. I think this festival is the perfect festival for students, because students only learn about Korean culture in a short period through the textbooks. That's why we are trying to keep this festival going year after year." He also summed up the festival as the 'Pride of jeju.'”
Nicholas Joan, an The “Crete” booth operator (chairman of the Greece museum) said, “I love Crete. Crete and Jeju have many things in common, like topography and strong women. I’m operating this booth about Crete, because I think if I inform the public about Crete, it will make a name for Jeju, and Jeju will become more global.”
People have to continue the Tamra Cultural festival. For our descedants, for our ancestors the Tamra Cultural Festival can improve Jeju’s status more and more. The Tamra Cultural festival spread Jeju’s culture all over the world. |
