Tamna culture festival represents the heart of Jeju island. According to an imformation brochure, the purpose of the festival is for the succession of the Tamna culture and the revival of the Jeju culture. It started on Oct.2th and proceeded untill the Oct.6th.
It was held at Topdong Square.
There are many events and competition to enjoy, such as street parade with the citizens.
“ I participate here to lead children who take part in student’s folk art festival. Kids these days like many kinds of songs such as k-pop and rock music. But I think if students learn our traditional now, they could participate this festival again when with their child when they grow up. It is the precious experience for them” said Go Gyung Soo, the school vice - commissioner.
There are many booths to experience in festival. There are a booth named ‘CRETA’. I’t is the island name in greek.
Nicholas John, the assisant director of Korea Greek institute said
“ Creta and Jeju have something in common. The most special one is that Creta island and Jeju is the mainland of the god. Zeus mainland is Creta and Sullmoondae - Hal mang’s mainland is Jeju.”
At the end, Tamna culture festival is the easiet way to have an interest to Jeju culture. It contains the spirit of our ancestor and our Jeju citizen’s life.
