On Sept. 28, Saeyeon Bridge, which connects Saeseom Island to Seogwipo port, opened to visitors after several years of construction. The bridge was modeled on Jeju’s traditional fishing boat, the tewoo.

The footbridge is the longest ever built in Korea, and is decorated with splendid, colorful LED lights. In addition, the bridge has been built using a new method in bridge construction, which means that instead of using wires to support both sides of the bridge, they are only used to support one. This allows for greater freedom of design and unobstructed views from the walkway.

A well as the completion of the bridge, a new 1.2km esplanade on Saeseom Island has been opened. Open areas, wooden decks, and many photogenic spots await visitors.

At the opening ceremony, Byon Jong-il, Chairman and CEO of Jeju Development Center, explained that the bridge is designed to be part of the Seogwipo Tourist Port project. It is hoped that the completion of the bridge, combined with the beauty of Chunjiyeon waterfall, will attract more tourists.
