Jeju to improve living conditions for foreign residents |
|
The Jeju Immigration Office has launched an investigative team to identify some of the everyday difficulties encountered by foreign residents living on Jeju Island. The team consists of 19 foreign residents who are either married to Koreans, have permanent residency, or attend university on the island. This task is designed to improve the living conditions for the steadily increasing number of foreign residents. According to the latest survey, about 7,000 foreign residents, from 44 different countries, live on Jeju Island. This constitutes about 1.2% of the island’s total population. It’s a sharp increase compared to last year; fueled by an influx of migrant workers and the foreign spouses of Koreans. The local immigration office will compile information received from the team, and submit it to the policy committee at the Ministry of Justice.
