Halla Eco Forest, also known as “Little Halla Mountain”, officially opened on Sept. 15; signaling the end of ten years of construction and restoration work. Situated on 196 hectares of grazing land in Bonggae-dong, Jeju City, the forest is segmented into 13 themed areas and features an observation deck, unique Jeju stones, an artificial stream and aquatic botanical gardens. It is also home to 530 species of animal and 740 types of plant. The area is built to replicate the ecosystem of Mt. Halla and contains azaleas, chamkkot trees and cherry blossoms.

The forest, which cost around 12.2 billion won to build, is the first of its kind in Korea. It is intended to offer visitors a chance to experience Halla’s ecosystem and be an example of environmentally-friendly tourism.
