Bangseonmun Valley, rising between New Jeju and Old Jeju City, has been designated by the Cultural Heritage Administration of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province as a state-designated Cultural Property.
The valley is renowned for the more than fifty engravings, known as “ma-ae-myeong,” which were etched into the valley’s towering rocks by Joseon-era scholars.
The area thus combines outstanding natural beauty with unique cultural artefacts. Bangseonmun is at the end of the Bangseonmun Valley walking course, also known as Ora Olle. The course can be joined at the Hancheon (river) to the south of the Jeju City bus terminal, or behind Halla Library, in Ora-2-dong. |
