The rolling sea crashing onto the black basalt rocks of Jeju’s shore elicits a natural mystique. The shores of Yongduam and Iho, just 10 minutes from downtown Jeju City, have a distinct exotic atmosphere. This seashore emits a brilliant light at dusk. It is a great dating course. Lovers whisper sweet nothings to each other while bathed in the light of neon signs and colorful lamps which reflect off the ocean waves.

As the beach is right next to the airport, if you’re so inclined you can enjoy watching the frequent take offs and landings of planes just tens of meters above your head.

Along the ocean’s shore there are beautiful open-air and waiter-less cafés, as well as restaurants. Sushi restaurants offer tempting selections of raw fish. You can enjoy Jeju black pork barbecue with a glass of soju in the park near the seashore.

At Tapdong Square in old Jeju City, there is an area that has been claimed from the sea. This place is a great spot for night activities like bicycle riding, in-line skating, and foot volleyball. It’s a good date spot as well. Tapdong Seaside Amphitheater, near the Ramada Plaza Hotel, is a major landmark in Jeju City for tourists and young people alike.

The 10th Midsummer Night Beach Festival will begin on July 25 and continue through Aug. 5 at this beautiful outdoor seaside amphitheatre and square. This summer festival brings world-class musical performances to Jeju, ranging from classical to modern music.

The acoustics are superb, especially considering they must compete with the sound of the ocean and the strong breeze. Despite the common perils of outdoor viewing — like rain and mosquito bites — it’s all worth it to listen to live music under the stars.

How about experiencing a waterfall on a summer night? Cheonjiyeon Waterfall is a good place for sight-seeing and taking someone on a date in Seogwipo City. Soft lighting adds to the picturesque beauty of the waterfall at night. The scene is illuminated until 11 p.m. A lush forest and many rare plants surround the waterfall.

When night falls, the waterfall’s parking lot becomes a spacious square for family picnics, bicycle riding, and in-line skating.

The outdoor performance hall at Cheonjiyeon Waterfall is booked with various music festivals in August.

Seongsan Sunrise Peak is known as one of the most wonderful places on Jeju. Ninety-nine castle-like rocky pinnacles encircle the volcanic structure.

Instead of opting for viewing Sunrise Peak’s namesake, try catching the grandeur of a moonrise at Seongsan. From 7:30 p.m admission is free.
