The Jeju government is working in close collaboration with the Korea Maritime Institute to name Jeju as a new destination of yacht marine tourism. After conducting through research on the major ports and marine facilities of Jeju island, it will roll out a five-year plan to make Jeju a “special marine tourism zone.”

Its focus is to create a unique yacht tourism product and promote sea leisure industry by taking full advantage of its oceanic potentials. The ports included in the development plan are Dodu, Kimnyeong, Seongsanpo, Seogwipo, Jungmun and Sinchang ports.

In conjunction with the 2012 World Expo being held in Yeosu, a coastal city in South Jeolla Province, Jeju is planning to host an international yacht competition and establish a cruise line connecting Yeosu and Jejum in order to attract more Expo participants to the island.
