The golden shores of Gimnyeong beach, on the northeastern coast of Jeju Island, host the JejuStock Festival July 18 as musicians take to the stage to raise money and festival-goers gather to have a good time.

The event is in aid of Waves For Development a charity co-founded by English teacher Christian Prendergast. He hopes that the event will raise awareness of the charity, whose mission is to improve the lives of young people in Lobitos, Peru, through educational surf programs. The charity’s work is far-reaching within the community and Christian hopes that it will encourage foreigners and Koreans alike to support Waves For Development and the positive difference they are making.

The festival starts at midday with the commencement of the live music as do the many activities such as beach volleyball, soccer, games and contests and the plentiful beer included in the cover donation cost.

Prendergast looks forward to an event with a “fun, family atmosphere,” during the day, with “more of a concert atmosphere” as the sun goes down and the main show begins.

Reggae band Windy City, who had great success at the Stepping Stone festival a few weeks ago are headlining the set, to be accompanied by foreigner-formed band Waikiki Weather Control, as well as Margaret “HOTLIPS” Hoolihan, Animal Dads, Liz Pesce and many other performers.

A cover donation of 30,000 won includes free beer all day and all profits made will be donated to Waves For Development.

Gimnyeong beach is reachable by bus from either the main bus terminals.

JejuStock begins at noon, Saturday 18th July.
