Jeju has joined hands with a global enterprise to fulfill Governor Woo Geun Min’s administration’s pledge that Jeju’s exports reach 1 trillion won. The strategy is to give impetus to Jeju’s exports by concluding a business pact with Samsung C&T Corporation, a company with accumulated exports know-how.

On Jan. 21, Jeju's representative signed the business agreement in the conference room on the second floor of the Jeju provincial office. Persons working for Samsung C&T including Vice President Lee Dong Hee, public servants belonging to the provincial government’s department of exports, and Governor Woo attended the signing of the pact.

In the MOU both parties will promote dispatching public servants of the provincial government to acquire import and export business, find Jeju-related exports, garner support for overseas marketing, and carry out Samsung C&T’s export and import business.

At the regular personnel management carried out on Jan. 19, public servants were dispatched to prominent domestic enterprises such as Samsung.

At the conclusion of the MOU signing, Jeju and Samsung C&T consented to arrange regular meetings to ensure the validity of the business agreement.

“The company, while handing down its exports know-how, will take full advantage of its global offices located in 47 countries to assist the exportation of Jeju’s regional products” assured VP Lee.

Lee also resolved to provide active support and cooperation with Jeju’s challenge to win the New7Wonders of Nature. “I have already encouraged all employees of Samsung C&T Corporation to take part in the vote and am aware that most of them have voted for Jeju. I wish the best luck” he said.

“I express my gratitude towards the willingness to accept the proposal of the business pact aimed to realize 1 trillion in exports,” Governor Woo said. “Today we signed the agreement as equals, but expect Samsung to aid Jeju when in comes to exports.”

Samung C&T Corporation, the origin of Samsung Group, is a leading global enterprise in Korea’s exports with over 100 overseas offices in 47 countries.
