Vietnam tops foreign spouse numbers

Many foreign spouces on Jeju citizens came from Vietnam, according to new data collected for December 2010. According to the Korean Immigration Service, 1,485 people held F-2 visas on Jeju. These married immigrants can apply for citizenship or permanent residence after two years.

By region, 1,024 F-2 visa holders live in Jeju City and 461 live in Seogwipo City. Of those, 1,368 are women and 117 are men.

By nationality, the largest group is Vietnamese, with 495 people. China is second with 274 people, 247 from the Philippines, 111 from Japan, 62 from Cambodia, 42 from Nepal, 31 from the United States and 16 from Canada.
Nationwide, it was announced that as of December 2010, 141,654 non-Koreans are married to Koreans; including 35,355 from Vietnam, 35,023 from China, 10,451 from Japan, and 7,476 from the Philippines.
