Girls' Generation posing for LG in 2013

It has been reported that three members of Girls' Generation, one of K-pop's most successful groups, will quit their management agency.

The three members are Seo-hyun, Soo-young, and Tiffany. According to Yonhap News, Tiffany will leave to study in the United States, while Soo-young and Seo-hyun want to focus on their acting careers.

This news has, of course, thrown into doubt whether or not the three singers will continue working with the rest of the band. This also raises questions about the future of the band as a whole.

According to Yonhap News, S.M entertainment said, "We're not thinking about disbanding the group. However, since there are members whose contracts have expired, we'll decide carefully after consulting with all members regarding the future path of the team."

Throughout the lifespan of the band, many of the members have gone on to do different things including releasing solo singles and acting. What makes this news more concerning for fans is that the members not only want to do other things but also want to leave the management agency.

While it would still be possible for the members to stay in the band, the fact that they would be signed to a different agency would make things much harder.

Even if the girls did leave, it would not necessarily spell the end of the band. The group has eight members and it is not entirely uncommon for groups to continue without all of their original lineup (in fact, the group lost one member, Jessica, in 2014). However, losing such a significant portion of the group would surely be hard to take.

Should the group split, it would be the end of one of K-pop's most popular, and successful, groups. Originally formed in 2007, the success of single "Gee" in 2009 really shot the group to fame.

The group is also rare in that they found some success in the English speaking world.

2013 single, "I Got a Boy" beat the likes of Justin Beiber and Psy to the Youtube "Video of The Year" award. It was also named by Time Magazine as the fifth best song of the year.

Girls' Generation's most recent album, "Holiday Night," was released in August and it celebrated the group's tenth anniversary.
