In 2014, a Korean woman called Mrs. Kim killed another woman’s three-year-old son. Mrs. Kim claimed that the boy pooped and peed everywhere because he was possessed by a demon. She says this is why she killed him.
The boy’s mother, Mrs Choi, didn’t do anything to stop this crime even though she was there.
Later on, it was discovered that they were living together as part of a group that worship Jindo Dogs.
The court sentenced Mrs. Kim to 13 years in prison and Mrs. Choi to 10 years in prison for the boy’s death.
At the time of the incident, there was a great interest in the group as, to most people, worshiping Jindo Dog’s is a strange thing to do.
However, journalists from JTBC have brought the issue back to the attention of the public after an article where they investigated the cult.
According to JTBC, even before the crime, the group were already well known in the village in Jeollabuk-do Province where they lived as a group.
Residents in the village said that, "they do not raise dogs, but they do worship them."
Apparently, when they first set up, the group did not originally worship Jindo dogs. Instead they believed in other gods but started to focus on Jindo dogs in order to gather more believers.
The group has been accused of being a cult. People have suggested that the leaders of the group didn’t actually worship Jindo Dogs, but instead encouraged others to do so in order to make money from the pensions and alimony of their followers.
Does the group still exist?
People in the village insist that a middle aged woman named Mrs. Lee is the current leader of the group. It is said that she provides the housing for the group.
In fact, since starting the group it is said that Mrs. Lee has bought three villas worth about 200 million won in Gangseo-gu, Seoul.
Police have said that they suspect that she bought these houses using money from followers of the group. |
