China is the largest market for the Korean MICE industry and Chinese MICE tours are usually large scale with a big economic impact, thus promoting friendship between neighboring countries.
For the Chinese, Korea is not only local and cost effective, but also is culturally attractive due to the popularity of the Korean Wave. Jeju must, therefore, differentiate itself from Busan and Seoul, and it does this by promoting its superior nature and leisure.
George Qiao, director of the China Electronics Chamber of Commerce, agreed that Jeju’s advantages include short flights times, culture and the island’s stunning scenery. He added, however, that the no-visa system was also a big pull. Jeju allows no-visa entry to most nationalities around the world including China.
Isaac Yang, procurement manager at Ferring, agreed that Jeju’s advantages lie in its convenience for Chinese buyers, adding that its services and infrastructure are also world class. Yang suggested increased promotions to ensure more people know about Jeju’s strengths.
With these efforts, Jeju Convention & Visitors Bureau is maintaining Jeju’s position at the head of the Asian MICE industry. |
