Jeju citizens are set on ensuring Jeju’s environment is clean for the start of the 95th National Sports Festival from Oct. 28. until Nov. 3. The province is leading the public-private initiatives which began on Sept. 29 and will continue until Nov. 10 to ensure a clean image of Jeju is projected to visitors and the nation.
Environmental maintenance will be carried out on roads, stadiums, tourist sites, the airport and ports. On Oct. 24 in particular, organizers have asked residents, organizations and institutions to work as one in preparation for the events.
The province has set up a National Games General Situation Room to organize the actions and from Oct. 18 they have been receiving calls from the public and organizing cleaning efforts through city administrations.
The team will also clean up during the sports festival at event sites and be on hand for any emergency situations.
A provincial official said: “The continuous increase in both tourists and residents on Jeju Island is making it more difficult to deal with municipal waste. Starting in the home, we must all reduce our waste and follow proper waste disposal procedures to show a mature awareness of our discharged waste.
The week-long 95th National Sports Festival will be held Oct. 28 to Nov. 3 at Jeju Sports Complex and 73 other sites across the province, and some even on the mainland. A total of 44 official and three exhibition events will be included with 18,769 athletes and 6,038 officials taking part.
