Jeju police arrested two Chinese students accused of selling diet pills containing human flesh, reports The Korea Times.

3,000 diet pills and 500 detox pills were purchased from a Chinese website and smuggled illegally into the country by Mo (26) and Ahn (21), police reported.

The bottles were sold on for 60,000 won having been purchased for 20,000 won for each bottle of 30 pills. The 6 million won profits would be used for their tuition fees, the students claimed.

The pills were analyzed by the National Forensic Service and tested positive for human flesh after being handed over by Jeju Maritime Police. The pills also tested positive for the banned substances sibutramine and phenolphthalein. Local police have pledged to widen their investigations to identify if any similar pills are still being sold.

The case follows reports by The Guardian in May 2012 that Korean customs had seized drug capsules containing powdered baby flesh. The flesh is thought by some to be a remedy for disease or to boost stamina, but health officials warn that it is a serious health risk.
