With characteristic verve, local ska collective South Carnival join in the day of activism for Casa del Agua, at Venture Maru Building Plaza, Jeju City, on Friday, Dec. 28

The 3rd Cultural Festival to Save Casa del Agua takes place at the Jeju Venture Maru Building Plaza, near Jeju City Hall, on Friday, Dec. 28. The Casa del Agua, meaning “the house of water,” was designed by prominent Mexican architect, Ricardo Legorreta, and it is one of only two in Asia. It continues to be threatened with demolition and this cultural event aims to raise awareness of this threat by bringing together supporters and activists.

The day of activism has been organized by the Association of Mexican Residents in Korea, and the Cultural Association for Saving Casa del Agua; sponsorship comes from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. A New Year’s greeting card will be given to all attendees.

Events begin with a visit to Casa del Agua itself at 11 a.m. in Jungmun, Seogwipo City, followed by a series of events at the Jeju Venture Maru Building, Jeju City. The afternoon schedule begins with the “How can we save Casa del Agua?” seminar, between 3-5 p.m. in the 10th floor Seminar Room, Jeju Venture Maru Building.

The evening schedule kicks off at 5 p.m. at the Jeju Venture Maru Building Plaza, with a series of musical performances by artists from Jeju and the mainland. Performers include: CoreMagazine, an indie rock group selected for ‘Rookie of the Year’ by the EBS Space Gong Gam; Galaxy Express, psychedelic rockers; Lee Jong Hyuk and band, esteemed Jeju jazz specialists; Festeza, a Brazil-inspired Korean percussion collective; and local Ska favorites, South Carnival.
