Jeju Welfare Center for the Blind brings experience of disabilities to Halla Elementary School students |

“I am in the middle of dark. It is so uncomfortable,” said Yang Kyung Joo, a fifth grader in Halla Elementary School, while wearing a black eye patch.
Kim Ji Hwan and Kim Hyun Bin, the classmates who were also participating, identified each other by using their hands and said, “When I meet the blind people, I will hold their hands tight.”
Jeju Welfare Center for the Blind organized an program for children at Halla Elementary School to experience various disabilities on April 18. This program was conducted in order to commemorate the 31st Day for Disabled, which was held on April 20.
Students experienced visual impairment by wearing eye patches and passing obstacles while using white canes.
Students also experienced hearing impairment by communicating with each other only through sign language, and physical handicap by moving with wheelchairs and crutches.
The program, which continued until April 22, consisted of experiencing three types of disabilities: visual impairment, hearing impairment, and physical impairment. Approximately 500 Halla Elementary School students participated in the program.
