The New7Wonders organization, a Swiss-based nonprofit foundation, has highlighted Jeju Island as one of the most powerful candidates among the total of 261 qualified multinational nominees.
The magnificent natural beauty of Jeju Island is now ready to represent the Republic of Korea. Jeju Island was voted on Dec. 31, 2008 as one of the 441 “natural wonder” locations in the world.
The second round of voting for the whole pool of nominees continued through July 7, 2009, where the group was whittled down to 28 finalists, including Jeju. The online leader board shows the current finalists ranked by total votes received until now, in two groups: the top 14 and the bottom 14, listed alphabetically. Currently, Jeju Island belongs to the top group.
Jeju’s global promotional drive for ‘Vote for Jeju’ has earned a fresh dose of publicity recently with the inclusion of Jeju in the Global Network National Geoparks. The Jeju Tourism Organization is ramping up their campaign drive this November by targeting its message at thousands of international delegations participating in Jeju Int’l Green MICE Week or G20 summit events on the island, such as Korea Smart Grid Week.
