Jeju will hold its second maemil (buckwheat) festival from Sept. 9 to Oct. 10 this year.
Jeju’s vast buckwheat fields look like thousands of acres of white snow and are located in Ora-dong, not far from the urban center of the Jeju city.

These buckwheat fields emerged as a hugely popular attraction last year due to them being a great place for photos. Also, the swaying fields of buckwheat flowers add to the depths of autumn on Jeju island.
When Koreans think of buckwheat, most immediately think of Bongpyeong (PyeongChang, in Gangwon-do). But in fact, not many people know that Jeju island is the biggest buckwheat producer in Korea.

More than half of Korea’s domestic buckwheat is grown in Jeju. Along with more well-known Jeju products such as tangerines, carrots, and canola flower seed, it would be nice if people knew that buckwheat is another major Jeju crop.
