Detailed plans for marine tours, cruise tours and marine leisure tours will make Jeju a hub for marine tourism in Northeast Asia, say tour officials, and a detailed roadmap will be developed.
A “Comprehensive Plan for Marine Industry Promotion” will be prepared to support systematic policy promotion for the marine industry. The six targeted areas will be: marine tourism, marine leisure and sports, cruises, shipping networks, marine biology and marine culture.
To ensure the industry is an engine of future green growth, key pillars include:
- Ascertaining the environmental impact of the domestic and international marine industry.
- Developing a vision and goal for Jeju marine tourism.
- Developing a long- and short-term road map based on the six targeted areas with core strategy, investment and funding plans.
Manpower training and support for the marine industry and related public institutions will be targeted.
Jeju Development Institute is charged with progressing Jeju the plan with its superior human resources and research experience. An interim report will be released in July with the full plans published by October after deliberation with Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Marine Policy Council.
An official said, “We already have great port infrastructure and marine tour facilities; therefore, if we organize a proper master plan and implement it, the dream of becoming a hub of global marine industry will come true.” |
